God Is Love

NOT SOMEONE WHO LOVES BUT LOVE ITSELF

Religious traditions have completely misunderstood (and therefore misrepresented) the nature and character of God.

It is understandable. We tend to think of ourselves simply as people, limited, mortal, finite persons. So it stands to reason that we would imagine some personal super being that possesses all the great qualities we don't. The whole projection thing is a whole other conversation.

The problem is, we then also project upon Him (and in the west it is a him) all sorts of really scary attributes; anger, revenge, wrath, extreme punishment, conquest, bombast, all sorts of characteristics which, appearing in any of us, would be regarded as pathological and the menace would be locked up... rightfully so.

But look at this verse from the very same Bible that seems more often to celebrate the psychopath.

  • 1 John 4:8 - But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love

  • 1 John 4:16 - God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them

God IS Love.

Love is not an attribute or a quality of God. Love IS God. Which means anything that is not loving has nothing to do with God... or with you!

To truly take this in revolutionizes religion. It ceases to be a fearful obedience to a merciless ruler but a surrender to the nature of being itself. Since we are also informed that we are made in the image and likeness of that love then Love is your very nature.

Which means you could legitimately and with authority say "I am Love." And you would be theologically as well as absolutely correct.

Why am I talking about all this God stuff? Good question.

Many of the people who read my emails have already put aside the twisted ideas of the Almighty that we grew up with but slow down. Our deep childhood programming doesn't just disappear because we have an insight. A total transformation is required.

People who reject these ideas still wrestle with guilt, shame, fear, doubt, all of the byproducts of the mythological original sin.

To truly transcend that, we must actually become Love.

I want to introduce you to a whole new view of Christianity. Actually scratch that. I want to introduce you to the actual teachings of the Sage of Nazareth, the deeper meaning hidden in the western collections of myths and stories known as the Bible and the mystical tradition of speaking in the new tongue of spirit.

I don't mean blabbing a bunch of gibberish and calling it a divine experience. I mean a complete reinterpretation of the informing stories and legends of our culture.

I will be reviving my workshop "The Christian Mystic" between Christmas and New Years (Tuesday the 29th to be exact). If you are reading this after that time, it is available as a replay. The workshop also includes 3 hours of video from the previous time I gave this course. You can access by clicking here https://gpwalsh.thinkific.com/courses/christian-mystic

In the meantime, just contemplate what it means to see yourself, not as a mere, limited, struggling mortal but as the very nature of Love itself.

You are Love itself. This is not an attribute you exude. Like God, it is your very nature.
